How are you? I’ve been very busy in school. There was lots of excitement because of the Fiestas Patrias of September. Now we are preparing for the Day of
the Dead Celebrations. By the way, I am writing another article about how we celebrate El Día De los Muertos at school, but first I’d like to tell you about a
field trip we had at school.
Last year we baked cookies and sold them so we could donate whatever we got out of the sale to an institution that helps children
with cancer. We also held a concert of classical music to raise more funds for them.
This time we had a special theater performance of
JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. The company that presented the show is an amateur group of the Tecnológico de Monterrey,
a great college and university in Mexico, to which I would like to someday attend!
The parents of one of the students of my school direct this theater company, so they had this great idea of having a special performance, and all that we got from the sale of the tickets (more than
500), is going to help children with cancer.
The theater, on the campus of the Tec de Monterrey was full!Nearly all the school attended, as well as many of our parents. The show started at 11:00 A.M.
It was really great! There was a live orchestra playing, and the actors sung very well. When it was over, they gave us a tour of the theater. We were divided
into groups so we would all be able to enjoy the tour.
They showed us the dressing rooms, the stage, the place where the orchestra plays and the control rooms where they operate all the lighting and music.
It was very exciting since had never been backstage!
We were able to ask all sorts of questions: How do they control the lights? Do the actors feel intimidated by the public? Are they ever afraid or nervous? How do you change the scenery so fast? How can
actors learn so many lines?…..
We had a great time, and we all helped a little bit the children that are suffering from this terrible disease.
Well good-bye for now! And as soon as my school starts preparing for the Día de Muertos celebration, I’ll tell you about it and take some pictures
of our Ofrenda.
